Recently, I had an opportunity to be part of an urban senior session at the pearl. Now I have photographed many high school seniors and families in the past at the Pearl in San Antonio, Texas. It is a great location, however, I find myself sometimes feeling bored with the same old thing over and over again. After experiencing this session and photographing this San Antonio teen at the Pearl this time, I actually had some AHA-MOMENTS. Here are some things I walked away with:
3 things I Learned a the Senior Session at the Pearl
- Just because the Pearl (or any location for that matter) seems “old” or “boring” for me as the photographer, it doesn’t mean the seniors feel the same. I have to remember that just because I have photographed so many people at this location in the past, the Pearl is “new” to the seniors. It is possibly the first time they are photographed there and their Urban senior session is all new to them.
- There are so many different spots at the pearl to make any Urban senior session feel different, for me and the person being photographed. I have to be creative with the space and use different areas to give a different vibe. After all, seniors want their images to not look like everyone else’s photos.
- Editing style makes a difference. Usually, I edit senior photos the way I edit the family photos I take. But I have to remember that these images need to draw in the high school senior… not just mom. And so, I gave these images the urban feel with the style I chose to use to match the scene.
If you have ever considered an urban senior photo session at the Pearl, I say DO IT! It is a magnificent place with various textures, scenes and various vibes. We can make it work for any senior and it will be individualized just for you!
