Choosing the right photographer can be a daunting task. One thing I learned in the last 11 years is that I am not everyone’s photographer. I have to admit that for a long time I would get a little hurt when someone chose not to book me. You know that feeling, right? I mean it felt like being in PE class in Elementary school and feeling terrible because I was picked last on someone’s team. It just didn’t feel good.
But then I learned that there are a million photographers and there is no way for me to photograph every person in my town, my city or the entire planet… even if I tried. So of course I figured out that every “no” meant that a “yes” was coming my way. And now since I’m in search for a wedding photographer… I have had to say “no” to a few photographers that weren’t a good fit. They do amazing work… but they just weren’t right for me for one reason or another. So.. what makes a photographer right for you?
Things to Consider When Choosing the Right Photographer:
- Choose a photographer that specializes in the type of photography you are looking for. If you are wanting to find someone to photograph your high school senior’s photos, then make sure that they have experience doing that. The last thing you want is to hire someone that photographs newborns to photograph you and your fiancé.
- Choosing the right photographer means making sure the style of their art matches yours. There are so many photography styles out there. If you are looking for a natural, clean look then the last thing you want is to hire someone that uses a variety of filtered looks to edit their images. Look at their website and social media pages to see if you like their editing style.
- The right photographer is one that runs his/her business in a way that matches your lifestyle. What I mean is that some photographers have systems in place that make every step of the way an easy one without adding extra stress on your every day. Talk to the photographer before booking and ask the questions you need to find out if you and him/her are the right fit.
I recently went through this process when choosing a photographer for our upcoming wedding. I asked the questions, looked through their work, and found someone whose style matches mine. You have so many options out there… that’s the best part! So do your research and find the photographer that is perfect for you and your family. And if you think I am the right photographer for you… then book a session now!
