This year I set out to showcase women who built a small business from the ground up. Women who had an idea, were determined to make it happen, and today are living their dream of doing exactly what they love to do. These women are self-made, their own boss, and support and empower other females. Every month I will share a woman-owned business in hopes that you will support her too!
Meet Chelsea… the boss behind the woman-owned business Sweet P Custom Bakery. Her creativity and love of baking (which seems to run in the family) helped her experiment with cookie decorating back in 2016. Watching Facebook tutorials and Pinterest boards gave her the confidence that she too could do what others were doing, and so she set out to learn everything that she could about the cookie decorating business.
In 2016, she received her first paid order and decided just to go for it. While still teaching middle school, she started her very own cookie side hustle… decorating and selling sugar cookies. Pretty soon her custom cookies were a hit and she had to turn business away. Juggling a teaching career and her cookie business became too much, and she soon realized she had to follow this dream and make the jump. Today Chelsea runs Sweet P Custom Bakery full time out of her home in the Stone Oak area in San Antonio, Texas.
Four years later, Sweet P Custom Bakery is a woman-owned business serving San Antonio and surrounding areas. Chelsea has added delicious and beautiful custom cakes, cupcakes, cake pops and other treats to her menu. She also offers gluten and dairy free options for those clients with specific health needs.
She is very passionate about creating items that will wow customers and puts her heart into each and everything she bakes. Like Chelsea says, “It’s not JUST a cookie, it’s a piece of edible art!”
