A while back I joined a circle of amazing women who have two things in common with me for sure…. we are mothers and photographers. We love our children with every ounce of us and we love to document their everyday with our camera lens. Years back I would write Letters to my son Letters to my son in order to document his everyday in pictures and words. My hope is that these letters serve as an everlasting memory of his childhood.  Recently I decided to continue the letter writing.

And here is letter number one of 2022…

 

Dear Little Guy,

It seems so strange to address this letter in that way since you aren’t so little anymore.  You are only a month away from turning 17 years old, and it just doesn’t seem real.  The other day as we discussed conversations you have with your friends, it just hit me that in a little more than one year you will officially be considered an adult. And that just stops me in my tracks.

I still see that little boy that loved to sit on my lap and read books.  I look at you and I remember the things you said and how you said them in that cute little voice of yours.  Those days of watching you play with your hamster toys, marble games, and art tools is a thing of the past.  Luckily I have pictures to remember all those things from your younger years.

Today, this is what I normally see.  On this day, I worked in my office and you came by to say something.  To be honest, I dont’ remember what you said.  But I do know that in that moment I saw a young man staring back at me.  All I could do then was grab my camera and snap this image of you.  And my dear boy, you are everything a mom would want.  You are kind, independent, always willing to help, reliable, and very handsome.  You may not be so little anymore, but when I look at you I still see the little boy that stole my heart 17 years ago.
