My seniors get to choose their favorite senior photos to include in their final gallery…something I never thought of doing before. In previous years, I chose the final fully edited 30-35 images to include in a senior’s gallery. And although that process was not wrong, I realized that it may not be the best for my seniors. An image that I may choose may not be one that my seniors love the most. So it makes more sense to send a set of soft proofs after a session and my seniors get to choose their favorite senior photos (about 35) that they want me to edit!!! Yes you read that right!
You may be wondering why the change. Well, a few months ago I actually was in front of the camera when a photographer friend needed a model for a project. And after the session, I was filled with anxiety wondering what the images would look like. I actually wished that I could be the one to choose the images that she posted or used for her project. And that feeling of uneasiness immediately took me to what my seniors may feel after the session. So I decided to give it a try and let my seniors choose their very favorite images to include in the gallery.
And let me tell you that it has been an amazing change. I definitely still choose the very best images and cull down to about 80. I do a few soft edits to all 80 images and then send to my seniors for the final selection. Once that happens, I fully edit their favorites before sending their final gallery. The process has been a great experience for my seniors, although some of them struggle with choosing just 35!!!!
