I set out this summer to capture the magic of childhood…child portraits that capture the make believe world of a child. To photograph the moments in a child’s life where make believe becomes reality. I started with him. And on this day he put on his cape and he became a real life superhero.
This little one.. who barely spoke one word to me before… became a real life superhero. Strong enough to run from building to building, confident enough to “fly” from one end to the other, and brave enough to not allow his fears to get in the way. He stood tall! He gave it his best shot and enjoyed every minute of it. And his parents enjoyed watching him as he became a superhero in front of the camera.
If only it was that easy, right? Wearing a cape to feel stronger and more confident. And maybe wearing an actual cape could be a bit silly for us. After all we are not kids anymore. But I think the next time I need a confidence boost, a shot of bravery or some extra strength, I may just pretend to wear that superhero cape . I have a feeling that the superhero in me may just make an appearance.
And so the next time you set out to photograph your child, consider child portraits like these… the kind that show who they truly are and want to be. The kind that remind you of what it is like to be a kid again… child portraits that capture the magic of childhood.
