Not too long ago I was contacted by Sundrop Society about possibly joining them in their mission to capture little moments in the lives of children who are struggling with health issues that are greatly affecting their lives. And the minute I learned about Nicole’s fight for life, I knew I had to volunteer my time to do this for her and her family.
I met Nicole on a Monday evening… accompanied by her wonderful parents who have put everything aside to help Nicole get better. Earlier that day she had undergone yet another round of chemotherapy, and yet there she was standing in front of my camera lens smiling away, laughing with her brothers, and having conversations about her dreams and wishes. She truly is a perfect example of courage and strength.
My goal that day was to help Nicole see how beautiful she truly is. I want her to see what we all see, and I want her to know that not many people could do what she does every day. I want these pictures to represent her battle… and although tough… she manages to be the BEAUTIFUL person she is. I am grateful for meeting Nicole… because now when things seem too tough (although my struggles are minor compared to what Nicole goes through each day)… I just think about her and smile just like she did on this beautiful day.
